Landschaftspflegestation Moritzburg

Landscape Management Station Moritzburg

The Landscape Management Station Moritzburg (district Meißen) was established in 1994 and is authorised to carry out significant and technical complex parts of conservation measures under own direction. From this station, the staff manages and maintains about 100 hectares of valuable pasture habitats with their agricultural equipment mainly in the area of the Moritzburg Lakes and the Großenhainer Pflege.

The Landscape Management Station Moritzburg works closely with the Local Nature Conservation Agency of district Meißen and supports it to realise habitat development-, renaturation- and conservation measures (e.g. marsh gentian, orchids, White Stork and other species dependent on human buildings). Between 2016 and 2018 a plan of maintenance and development for the nature reserve “Kutschketeich” near the palace pond of Moritzburg was elaborated to supervise the ecological construction management of the renaturation and since 2018 monitoring and habitat management activities are carried out in this nature reserve. Schools of the region are assisted with environmental education. Close cooperation on organizational and technical issues exists also with the NABU-specialist group Ornithology and Environmental Education as well as with the Nature Conservation Radebeul www.radebeul.nabu-sachsen.de and the Association “Pro Natura Elbe-Röder e.V.” which jointly operates the nature reserve station “Naturschutzzentrum Seußlitz und Landschaftspflegestation Moritzburg” http://www.nsz-pro-natura.de/naturschutzzentrum.html.
